| The minutes of the "Millwood Masonic Club" August 23, 1921 noted a
call had been made to members of the Masonic Fraternity to meet at the Rest Room of the Inland Empire Paper Company at 7:30 PM. The meeting was called for the purpose of forming a Masonic Club to embrace Masons living in the Communities of Millwood, Orchard Avenue, Pasadena Park, Pleasant Prairie, and East to Irvin Station. At a meeting of the Millwood MAsonic Club held on October 7, 1921 a motion was made, seconded and passed that the name "Spokane Valley Lodge" be accepted for the prospective Lodge. At the meeting held December 7, 1921 it was noted some controversy had arisen over the proposed name. A committee was formed to propose another name. At the meeting held January 17, 1922 the committee reported the name "Concordia" had been chosen. A motion was made, seconded and passed to accept the name "Concordia". These meetings proved successful and on February 1, 1922 a dispensation was signed by Most Worshipful Brother John Gifford, to the 32 Master Masons who had properly petitioned the Grand Lodge, allowing them to work as Masons. The first official meeting of Concordia Lodge (UD) was held February 8, 1922. Grand Lodge, held in Seattle in June of that year, approved the Dispensation and assigned the number 249. The Charter was signed by Most Worshipful Brother Gifford on June 15, 1922. The Lodge was duly Constituted, and officers installed on September 1, 1922 by Most Worshipful Brother James McCormack. In order to properly report the history of Concordia Lodge, the minutes of each Communication would have to be included. This, of course, is impractical. Down through the years there have been many successes and failures, and problems of terrific magnitude. However the Lodge has grown in membership and respect throughout its existence. Membership peaked at 314 in the early 1970's and as of December 31, 1998 stood at 188. |
